## Best yurts for Colorado mountain weather

For Colorado's demanding mountain weather, the best yurts are those built with robust materials and thoughtful design for snow and wind. Look for yurts featuring heavy-duty, marine-grade canvas or architectural fabrics that are UV-resistant, waterproof, and mold-resistant. A strong lumber frame, often using Douglas fir or similar durable wood, is crucial for snow load. Wind kits, including additional strapping and specialized anchoring systems, are essential for high-altitude gusts. Secret Creek, based in Montrose, Colorado, has been handcrafting yurts since 1976 specifically for these conditions. Their designs incorporate steep roof pitches to shed snow effectively and employ construction techniques honed over decades to withstand extreme temperatures and environmental stresses, ensuring long-lasting durability and comfort in any Colorado mountain setting.
